Platform Services Team Leader

Brenton Parry

To excel in any career, you need to set yourself goals and do everything in your power to achieve them. Look up your dream job and work out what skills you need to acquire to get that role. This is the perfect starting point and will allow you to calculate your strategy on how to work your way up into the role you want. To develop a career in IT you need two things; certifications and experience. The certifications are great to demonstrate that you have knowledge in specific areas and the experience proves you can use these technologies. For me, this combination allowed me to progress quickly from a graduate to mid-level, mid-level to senior and senior to team leader. Cube encouraged me and gave me the opportunity to take my career to the next level by promoting me from a Senior Server Administrator to a leadership role in the Platform Services Team. I am now able to help shape ideas, projects and initiatives that support my team to achieve the best for our customers. I’m fortunate that various people throughout my transition offered me advice, guidance and sometimes just an ear to listen. It’s great to work for a company that is so supportive and passionate about developing its people.

Systems Engineer

As a graduate coming out of university, becoming accustomed to the work environment can be challenging. After completing my university degree, I was given an opportunity to work for Cube doing work experience as an Associate Systems Engineer.

Overcoming the technical challenges as an engineer was tough initially, but I have learnt that you are never alone. I had the support of an amazing team and together we faced difficult situations and learnt many valuable lessons. This really shaped my perspective and taught me that by working as a team, you achieve the greatest outcomes. Every project I worked on allowed me to upskill my technical knowledge through mentoring from senior engineers and managers.  During my journey, I also began to increase my communication abilities and confidence to troubleshoot unknown issues.

Now after over 1 year at Cube, I am currently in the Implementation team focused on new stores, refurbishments and closures. I envision myself to one day join the project management team so I can provide the support and mentoring that was given to me as a graduate. My career achievements would not have been possible without the support of everyone during my journey and I look forward to helping future graduates start their career at Cube.
